The Ntshovelo Colliery is located circa 70km east of Johannesburg in the Delmas district. The opencast mine produces c.150,000 tonnes of coal per month. The mine is operated by Mbuyelo Coal.
The Manungu mine is located circa 65km east of Johannesburg, in the Witbank coalfield in the Mpumalanga province. The Mine is operated by Mybuyelo Coal.
The Mavungwani mine is located approximately 40km south of Middelburg in the Mpumalanga province. The mine is operated by Mbuyelo Coal.
The Khashani mine is located circa 140 km east of Johannesburg in the Kriel district in the Mpumalanga province. The mine was historically mined by BHP and was previously known as TNC Mine. The mine operated by Mbuyelo Coal.
Mpumalanga is rich in coal reserves, and home to South Africa's major coal-fired power stations – three of which are the biggest in the southern hemisphere. Mpumalanga produces about 80% of the country's coal.
